Terms of use
Provisional version, under legal review. Last updated: 5 October 2026.
1. Purpose
These terms of use govern access to and use of the Kizuna service, published by The Happiness Institute ("we"), on the kizunastories.com website and in the kizunastories.app app. They apply to anyone who visits the website, creates an account or views a shared story ("you"). The terms of sale for paid offers are set out in the terms of sale.
2. Description of the service
Kizuna lets you tell your life story and pass it on to your loved ones. The service includes:
- spoken interviews with Emma, a voice companion powered by artificial intelligence;
- a written transcription of these interviews and the writing of a life story based on what you said;
- Leo, a written assistant who helps you and applies your requested corrections;
- adding photographs, laying out the story, PDF export and ordering printed books;
- derived creations, such as children's picture books or comics;
- sharing the story, read-only, with a family circle.
On the kizunastories.com website, a demo of Emma (written and spoken) lets you ask questions about Kizuna before signing up. It is limited to two 5-minute sessions per day per visitor.
3. Use of artificial intelligence
Emma, Leo, the writing of the story and the illustrations rely on artificial intelligence systems. You are informed of this before each use. The story is written only from what you said, but AI can make mistakes (dates, names, interpretations). Please reread and correct your story before validating or printing it. Emma is neither a health professional nor a psychologist.
4. Account
- Creating an account requires a valid email address and a personal, confidential password.
- The service is reserved for adults [minimum age to be confirmed]. A relative may create the account for the storyteller, with their consent.
- You are responsible for the use of your account and must tell us about any unauthorised use.
5. Your content
You remain the owner of your words, memories, photographs and the story made from them. You grant us only a non-exclusive, free right to process them in order to provide the service (transcription, writing, layout, printing, sharing with the people you choose), for the lifetime of your account. We do not use your content for advertising and never publish it without your consent.
You guarantee that you hold the rights to the photographs you add and undertake to respect the privacy and honour of the people you mention. Avoid defamatory or insulting remarks about identifiable third parties, especially if the story is shared.
6. Sharing and guests
You can share your story via a link or invite relatives. Anyone with the link can read the story, so only share it with people you trust. You can withdraw a share at any time. Guests cannot edit the story.
7. Rules of use
You may not use the service to infringe the rights of others, bypass its protections, extract data automatically or divert it from its purpose.
8. Availability
We do our best to keep the service available at all times, without being able to guarantee it. Interruptions may occur for maintenance or because of our providers. An interrupted session can be resumed: what has already been said is kept in writing.
9. Suspension and deletion
You can delete your account at any time by writing to contact@happiness-institute.com. We may suspend an account in the event of a serious breach of these terms, after informing you except in an emergency.
10. Liability
We cannot be held liable for content you provide, nor for use of the service that does not comply with these terms. Nothing in these terms limits your rights as a consumer.
11. Personal data
How we process your data is described in the privacy policy.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. Any significant change will be notified to you before it takes effect.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by French law. In the event of a dispute, an amicable solution will be sought first. Failing that, the courts with jurisdiction will be those provided for by law.
This English translation is provided for information only; the French version prevails.
